In my 2+ years working at Insight, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of audio gear from a major client, Plantronics. In this example, we were working with a small headset piece that could be worn on either ear. This unit would need to contain both a microphone and a earpiece and also be comfortable for the user to wear for long periods of time. This was achieved through use of several articulated joints and a symetrical design. Beginning with a flexible earpiece, this unit fits around the contour of the users' ear and then flexes to the correct position per each user. A ball and socket joint is used to allow some rotation in every direction of the mircophone. This allows the user to position the microphone at a comfortable position while maintaining an optimal distance from the microphone for clear audio recording. The custom wire solution features an imbedded bendable wire section that allows the unit to conform comfortably to nearly any head contour. An inline adjustment module is used to adjust options for the unit. Plantronics has a line of audio gear that includes full sized headsets, small, portable headsets, wireless, and microphone, or speaker only headsets. I have had the opportunity to work with each type offered while working at Insight Product Development. Model M135 is pictured below.
