This
project was the 'mark' device required for a 'measure, mark, cut'
assignment.
Utilizing
a unique micro-pulley system, this device actually demonstrated
some functionality. The concept was to create a drawing device
similar to a compass that would be able to draw an accurate and
adjustable ellipse shape. This was achieved through a mechanism
that would retract or expand the legs of the device while the
drawing insturment rotates around the two points while being constrained
by an adjustable belt.
A
'working' prototype of this device was constructed of soldered
brass square, round, and rectangular tubing. The rendering below
is computer generated for clarity. The legs would adjust proportionally
by an internal system cord wrapped around a central axle. Turning
the red wheel under the knob to the right would extend the legs,
turning to the left would retract them.
