This
prototype was the result of of one of two projects sponsored by
Mariah Boat Company. Mariah was looking for new seating concepts
for their premium high speed boats.
This
prototype effectively demonstrates my concept. The seat is designed
to wrap around the driver to increase stability while manouvering.
The seat has linkages that allow it to raise up to enable the
driver to partially stand while still comfortably steering the
boat.
The
seat back rises along with the rear part of the seat cushion.
As the seat rises, the front of the seat cushion pivots downward.
This arrangement provides back support while maintaining secure
side support. This also allows the driver's legs to extend beyond
the ordinary sitting position.
The
pictured prototype was constructed from soft and hard urethane
foam, colored thermoformed acrylic, brass telescoping tubing,
and sewn flat vinyl material.
