This
concept was developed in response to an annual project that was
sponsored by Motorola. The goal was to develop a concept for pagers
that would be simple and fun for kids and teens to use.
My
approach was to create a 'video pager'. Using a simple three button
interface, this pager allows the user to look into the front mounted
lens and see a snapshot (or video clip) of the caller. I believe
that this functionality would be of interest to anyone who currently
uses paging technology. It offers not only transmission of raw
data, but a visual interface as well.
Two
protypes were constructed, the one below was made with urethane
foam and polyester resin. The integrated lens was cast in clear
epoxy.
The
other prototype (not shown) was a similar design, but dipped in
a rubber compound to provide a grippy, durable, waterproof skin
for the device.
